Question 285/75/16 on a 16x8?

Well I'm finally gettin 285's YEA!!!!!
I'm pretty sure that the correct size wheel to mount them on is a 16x8, is that correct? Just wanna make sure, hopefully they will be on my truck in a week.

Thanks,
Patrick

Yes, thats a good match and I think it says you could get by with a 7.5 inch wheel (if I am not mistaken). I can't seem to find the reference/calculator for it however. I though there was one on the Tirerack.com thingy. There are some here that have them on 7 inch wheels and seem to report it's OK. Go figure

I have 285/75R16 BFG A/T's on my stock alloys (7") and they fit great- I prefer 7" not only because I didn't have to buy new wheels, but the sidewall and tread protrude out enough to give the wheels some protection against rocks.

mudder,
I've got the same wheel tire setup that you're getting. The 285/75/16 BFG T/A KOs fit the 16x8 perfectly. Have fun.

I just bought 285/75/16 BFG TA KO's and Weld 16x8 wheels and that was the setup reccomended to me by the shop (4wheelparts). The guy said I could even go with a 16x7(.5?) but I wanted the 16x8 (he said the 16x10 would have worn the tires irregularly and would probably hang out too far for my liking.

What kind of tire are you going to get? ANd are you putting them on the Baja's?

mak 4,

I'm getting BFG AT/S KO 285, and I'm putting them on my Baja's.

Thank you all for your input, hopefully I will have them put on by Monday or sometime next week. I will get pics put up when it's done. Thanks again.

hey guys~
just curious if there is any reason why y'all are using 285/75/16 instead of 33/12.5/16? what is the difference in size?

J_Rock,

The 285/75/16s are 11.5inches wide. I don't think the BFGs come in a 33x12.5x16. At least I couldn't find them in their online catalog. They do make a 33x12.5x15 but I've heard that 15inch rims won't clear the brakes on our trucks.

ALA G8R~
hey, i realize BFG doesn't make a 33/12.5/16, but there are a couple other companies that do (goodyear, mickey thompson...). also, according to the Discount Tire web-page, there are a couple 15in wheels that will fit our trucks. the reason i am trying to figure all of this is out is because i'm going to be lifting my truck in the next couple of months and am still trying to decide on the exact set-up i want. thanks again for your help.
