Question What is so bad about the stock wheels?

I noticed a lot of people are changing thier wheels for replacements of the same size.
I think the stock wheels look great.

I like the stock rims on my truck too but want wider rims. I know 16X8 isn't going to be a very big difference but i'm still doing all I can to make my truck as individual as possible.

The chrome '99 wheels look great, but the ones on my '97 looked goofy. IMO. When I bought the truck I knew they had to go.

p.s. The stock 235/70/16 tires were too skinny also.

I also like the aluminum wheels that came with the XLT package. I just wished they'd show off my rear discs better. 16X7 seems big enough for me. Still, there's lots more room in those wheel wells and I think that's why some folks are buying bigger. Sure gets expensive, though.

Black 2000 SC short-box XLT. 4.2 V-6, 5-speed, 3.55 Limited Slip. Side steps, CD, remote entry, factory box liner. My add-ons: Older Windstar (driver's side) wiper blade - the one with the air scoop, because I don't slow down when it rains; and snazzy Tweetie Bird floor mats.

My second of the "new" F150s. Great trucks!

From the majority of posts I have read members are looking for wider rims to enable them to safely mount wider tires. The stock 7 inch wide rims just won't hold those wide tires.

I perfectly understand changing wheels to accomidate larger tires.
Just not going to different rims and keeping the same tires.

I too think the wheels that came with the '99XLT's look great. I wish I could have kept them with my new tires (save $600). Again, as T Ellenberger states, just neded wider wheels for safe mounting of the larger tires. The new A/R Pythons still show off the rotors which I think looks cool.

'00 Expedition, Silver w/Dark graphite, 5.4l and some other stuff. All in all she'll stay stock.

Yes, thats what its all about isn't it? I was recently asked why I wanted a new muffler (Gibson Super Truck) when my old one (stock)was still good. What a stupid question. I did not pontificate on restricton, HP gains and such I simply and loudly said "cause I want one". I too like the looks of my OE Lariat "Argent" style wheels and will keep them even when limited to 265-75/R 16's or so. Again, because I want to!

CPHILIP; I couldn't agree more. That's why most of us have done the mods we have. Anyone can buy a truck and drive it like it was built. It makes you feel good to see that you can modify one to get more power or better looks. Because we wanted to.

Keep on Truckin

Well I guess we can never spend too much $$ on mods.

I changed my 17" ORP wheel/tire combo because I wanted 35s and the wheels are not wide enough, and if they were, 35/12.50/17 are a small fortune, so I went with 16.5 Welds.

My 16" chrome wheels are ok, but when you wash them they hold a ton of water.I plan to buy a set of 17x8" rims this spring once winter is over here in NewEngland.
I am going to put on 275/60 17" tires the same size that were on the 93-95 Lightning.Thet have the same OD as my 255/70-16" tires, bur are 2-3 inches wider, so they won't effect my speedomiter.
I am thinking of a set of Centerline or Weld rims, but who knows by spring time I may find something I like better.
