Wheel Clearcoat Damage
Wheel Clearcoat Damage
This has probably been addressed before, but I couldn't find any good answers by looking through old threads. It seems that all or nearly all factory aluminum wheels come with a clearcoat on them. In my experience, this stuff is way more trouble than whatever supposed benefits it gives is worth. The clearcoat invariably gets scratched, stained, nicked or otherwise damaged through normal use, even with proper care (especially on the front). It makes otherwise nice wheels look shabby. Is this stuff put on just to reduce maintenance and cleaning or what? What was wrong with good ol' aluminum polish and a little elbow grease? Is there any way to fix, remove the coating or otherwise make the wheels look good again? Thanks for any help!

I have owned almost every finish out there , chrome is the best ! Clearcoat is nice as long as you don't use a solvent based tire dressing and uncoated aluminum wheels are alot of work and if it snows where you live they are even more work! Chrome wheels are easier to take care of . I have a set of clear coated aluminum wheels that I ruined with tire dressing . I am going to have them powder coated . They say this is a durable finish but I don't know anyone that has had this done so I will post my opinion on them later.
