Desperately Seeking Help

Ok - I think my brain is mush!! After reading about nine million posts, it seems that 50% of ya'll are in favor of going to a 32-33 inch tire over the stock 255's. I would like to go to a 33-12.50 but am having some second thoughts now. The extra clearance would be a definite plus while hunting but is it worth it?? Here are my questions:

1. Can I make a 33-12.50 fit fairly easily(I.E. no major cutting)

2. Can I get some contraption to fix the speedo? How Much?

3. Do I dare use the brand new 15x10 AE-589 wheel my buddy just gave me?

Sorry for all of the novice questions, I just don't want to be unhappy.

THANKS

Yes you can get a contraption to fix you speedo. The speedo is computer controlled so the solution is a computer chip. These chips are available from many companies like superchips, diablo, jet performance and hypertech. They cost between $150 and $400. They will require all kinds of info from you like you tire size and rearend gearing. As far as 15x10 wheels go I thing you will need a minimum 16 inch wheel to clear your brakes.

Yes 33/12.5 will fit with very little to no trimming as long as its a 4x4.

Yes you can adjust your speedo. If you have a 99+ then you can use a programer or a chip since its computer controlled. If you have a 97/98 then you need a new VSS gear than mounts on the side of the transfer case.

15" wheels probably won't fit due to the brakes. In 97/98 it was possible with a bad setup (low backspacing), but in 99+ it wasn't possible at all. Are you even sure your friends wheels are 5x135mm and not 5x4.5" or 5x5.5"? Anyhow those wheels are gonna be out.

As far as the 15's, dont know... but I do have 33X12.50-17's on my 4X4 (stock rims), and theres plenty of room to spare. Under no condition will they rub, like I said PLENTY of room in there. If you have a 4X4!! If its a 2X4, then no.... my .03C's

97 and 98's need 16" wheels or bigger to clear the calipers.

No, 15s can clear on 97/98 models. They could do it with very low backspacing which caused alot of problems with premature wear on bearings, brakes, etc. There weren't many companies (especially now) that made 15" wheels with low backspacing and a 5x135mm pattern. With factory backspacing they couldn't fit. On 99+ models 15s weren't even possible with low backspacing due to the rear disc brakes. Its possible to make 15s work, but be ready to replace parts on the front end at an almost yearly rate.
