Post Tire rotation

Going in for my regular oil change at 12,000 km's and i'm sure the dealer is gonna suggest a tire rotation. They tried it at 7500 km's and I told them to dream on.. When are people rotating their's? Im running the stock F-stones.

Thanks

I do mine at 8000 to 10000 miles. It's cheap. It extends the life of your tires. What's the big deal. You can do it in your driveway in about 15 minutes.

Someone told me that you have to rebalance the tire as you move them around??? Is this true? Doesnt really make sense to me. I would like to do this myself also. Is it a 4x4 issue also??

I do mine every 5000 miles. I learned the hard way. Stock Firestone Wilderness HT's only lasted 34,000 miles when I did it every 10,000. They were still good but you could really tell they were worn.

Firestone suggests ecery 5000 miles for rotation and 24000 for the alignment. When I bought he Duelers for my 99 XLT, they threw in life time balance and rotation.

An no. The only time you should have to reblance the tire is if you "throw" a weight ot you remove the tire from the rim, meaning the seal breaks. Unless you are really having problems with rattle at55mph or more.

Normally you don't have to rebalance the tires when you rotate, however if it is cheap to have it done it is not a bad idea. Just through normal driving, treadwear and hitting potholes the balance changes. After only a month your tires could be out of balance by half an ounce. You won't notice half an ounce unless your doing about 100mph but they will slowly get worse.

Hello to all:

I do a five tire rotation (four tire front to rear rotation on Lightning) every 5000 miles on my '97 4x4. I've got 96,000 miles on the original '97 tires, and will probably replace them at 100K.

It's easy to do, provided you have a good jack and jackstands.

I think tire rotation is a good practice for all vehicles, 4x4's; trucks; cars; etc.

I've learned the hard way by doing it every 10,000 then I started at every 5,000 miles. On my 94 Mustang GT I had them rotated every 10,000 the tires were bald at 30,000 I just traded it in for a 96 GT I had them rotated every 5,000 and replaced the origanal tires at 43,000 miles and the 2nd set still had lots of tread left at 75,000 when I traded it in for this truck. The 2nd set was Firestones and was surprised they lasted that long since they were alot cheaper than the Goodyears I wanted to get. As far as having them balanced if you don't feel any vibrations when driving at highway speeds there is no need in it.

Cool

I rotate mine every time I do a fluid change, every 3,000 miles. That is what my tire supplier recommends (Les Schwab). Of course they rotate and rebalance for free for the life of the tires!

Also, does anyone drive Les Schwab tires? Where I am from, that is what all the serious 4x4's wear. Les Schwab is located in Wash, Oregon, Idaho, N. Cali, Nevada, Utah.

Cool

Discount Tire does free rotation and balance. I have it done every 5k miles.

I don't think I have heard of Les Schwab tires. Around these parts, we here talk of BFG, Super Swamper, Pro comp, Goodyear...

Hi chizman,

I rotate my tires as per the Service Guide that came with my truck. My truck has 50,700 km on it now, and I had the tires rotated at about 9,000 km, 25,000 km, and at 40,000 km. It's due again at 56,000 km. I may even get an alignment then if I'm feeling rich. I haven't got one done yet. I'm not even sure I need one, but I should probably have it checked.

The last time I rotated the tires myself. I just got sick of paying $20 a pop. The torque wrench I bought only cost about $30 to $40, so it pays for itself after I've used it twice.

I have the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires (255/70/16) on my '98, and there is lots of tread left. In fact, I noticed yesterday that the rubber is aging (cracking) a bit, but there's still plenty of tread (I rarely spin the tires). I anticipate the tires lasting until at least 80,000 km, but likely even longer than that. When I do replace them, I think I'll go with BF Goodrich All-Terrain Tires. Probably in the 285/75/16 size.

If you have the tire warranty manual that came with the truck, I'd suggest you read it. Mine states
The purpose for regular rotation is to achieve more uniform wear for all tires on the vehicle. The first rotation is the most important. Before rotating tires, always consult your vehicle owner's manual for recommended rotation patterns and intervals. Tires should be inspected every 10,000 to 13,000 kms for any signs of unusual wear. If unusual wear is present, rotate your tires as soon as possible and check wheel alignment.
I hope that helps...
