My buddy has a 1998 4x4 F-150 and runs a set of 35x12.5/17 Goodyear MTR race tires on his truck with nothing more than a slight crank on the torsion bars. He had to remove some of the plastic along the bottom side of the front fender - the tires do rub the frame/bodywork when the wheel is at lock - all of this on the stock 17" wheels.

Buddy, let me tell ya what I did last night. BigED came up to my shop and we changed out his brake pads, well since he has his left front tire off, I wanted to see how his 35/12.50 would look on my truck, so I stuck his tire on my left front, and then let the truck down. The tires rub on the front valence pretty good, and come about a 1/4 inch from hitting the back fender well. I know it would rub for a fact under normal driving conditions. I really liked how it looked on my truck, even raised the truck up about an inch, but they would rub, and I even have a 4" suspension lift. You can try it, but I think on your truck, it won't be worth the tearing up of the tires, and you inner well, and major trimming of the valence.
Just tellin ya, since I just did this experiment. Good luck.

Also, I bet your tires really don't look that small, a lot of F150's have the 3-4 inch lift with 33's (305's) and it looks good. I plan on goin to a 295 (33.4/12/16) and it will look really good.
Mudder how did you make the bar on your grill gaurd to hold 4 KC'S i was thinking about doing this but I dont know what to use.

Jeff,
Where did you hear about these Goodyear MTRs? Goodyear's webpage doesn't even list a 17in MTR. The only tire I know of that is 35/12.5/17 is a mickey thompson baja belted hp. Also even though they say the size is 35, it is actually only 34" according to the MT webpage.

I made the bar with 2" flat bar, about 34 inches long, or around that. Welded 2" pipe to the bottom of the bar where they line up to the holes in the grill guard, then ran long bolts through to hold it down.
