looking for wheel/tire recommendation on '01 4x4
Sorry - I posted this earlier in the wrong section:
I have on order a 4x4 XLT which comes with - I think - 16x8 or 17x8 tires. It's my intention to equip the truck with American Racing (AR) Teron (Model 770) chrome wheels in 18". If I use a 285-60-18 tire will both the wheel and tire be compatible with the new truck. What brand tire is best? I will NOT be doing off-road driving. Looking for comfort and smoothest ride possible - acknowledging it is a truck.
Thanks.

97Lariat: Thanks for the advise, except I like the look of the AR Teron (in chrome). I'm going to need replacement tires at some point in the future, and living in the Northeast the winter (road salt, etc.) can be rough on chrome. So I plan on putting the stock 16 or 17" wheels/rims back on for the bad weather.
Having said that - and knowing nothing about wheel/tire sizing - can I use those AR 18" wheels and 285-60-18 tires (and what brand?) without causing speedometer problems or any other difficulty?
Thanks for your assistance.

The speedometer will be off just a little.
On my truck I have 265/70/16, & stock was 255/70/17. I figure my speedometer is off 1 mph. It doesn't hurt anything, just be aware of it. If the wheel/tire combo is close to the stock size then you won't have much of a difference at all.
