oversize tire on spare...will it fit?

Just a quick question...I am really considering upgrading my stock junk tires to some 285/75/16 Revo's on my stock aluminum rims. I would like to replace the spare tire also...will the bigger tire on the spare still allow it to be mounted under the truck in the stock spare location?

Thanks,

I have a 2000 SuperCab 4x4 with the Off-Road package (265/70-17) as a factory tire. I don't thing what you are putting on would be that much wider and my 17 is taller, too. I haven't read anything here where anyone even mentioned having a problem mouting the spare. Now, if you have dual exhaust out the back, there might be an issue.

First off, what is your stock size? Second, when I upgraded to Revo's in 265/75/16 I also replaced the spare, and there is no more room. If you go 285/75 and replace the spare, it simply won't fit. I have to physically pull my spare down to take it out 'cause it's such a tight fit. Oh, and the 265/70/17 is almost the exact dimensions of a 265/75/16. . .

Your 285 would probably fit in the same spot. Yesterday I tried to put my spare 315 (mounted on spare rim) under the truck. It doesn't tuck as nicely as the original 265, but it's secure. Only problem was it had like 1/8" clearance from the exhaust and I didn't feel a fire under the truck was what I needed. If you're concerned about the exhaust, you could wrap some insulation around the pieces of pipe closest to the tire.
