Talking Baja or Parnelli?

Hey guys... I almost have the money for my truck to lift it and put some new tires on it. I am geting the RCD 5" lift, the 3" body lift, eagle 589s, but the only thing I can't decide on is which tire to get. The Mickey Thompson Baja Belted 36 14.50 16.5, or the Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip 36 14.50 16. I've heard the MTs are really loud and don't ride very well. Is this true? It just seems like thats the tire everyone has, so it must not be to bad right? I like the idea of the Parnellis being radial though. I really need to decide this so, because I am getting them next month. So any comments or suggestions would be great. Can't wait to show you guys the finished pics! Thanks.

There are two people I know who can give you two great testaments on each of those particular tires. Squanto has nothing but goog things to say about the Parnelli Jones Dirtgrips, and last I heard, BigEd who is running the 36" Baja Belts was getting rid of them becauase they don't handle very well.
It is just a matter of that the PJ's are radials and the MT Baja Belts are only a bias ply tire.

Since you have the 5.4, you should have the E40D tranny, whick means you will get polished crossbar links.

One thing about the RCD lift is 10" wheels are the max. with 4.5" backspacing, so with the eagle 589's, you are limited to 16x10, unless you special order the wheels.

Since my truck is our daily driver, that's mainly the reason for me running on radials. So, I vote for the PJ's.

I will be doing my suspension lift some time this year after the gear change and I will be looking for new tires if I can sell the BFG's. If not, I will wear them down to the bone.

come to think of it, thats another question I had, was about the tranny. I was under the impression that I had the 4r70w. But I don't know. Does anyone else know anything about the tranny. I have the 5.4 with auto. Because they asked me that when I wa getting the price for the lift. The guys said there was a long one, and that would add about 3 or 4 hundred to the price. I think that the 4r70w is the shorter one and the 4r100 is the longer one. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks

The tranny pan is relative square on the short tranny, while the pan on the E40D I believe is nearly twice as long as it is wide.

The tranny crossmember is different on the E40D, whick also makes the lateral compression struts longer. The added ~$400 is not solely due to the lat. compression struts being polished stainless.

Thumbs up

Hello, like sdiesel316 said, I highly recommend the Dirt Grips. The few people I have talked to who have Micheys have not been all that happy with them. The Dirt Grips being radials makes a huge diffence in everyday driving performance.
Big thumbs up on the Parnelli Jones!

See ya
