bf goodrich 315/70/17

I have a 2002 SuperCrew 4x4 with the terrible stock tires. I priced the bfg a/t 285/70/17 at $185-$230, but here that the bfg a/t 315/70/17 is much cheaper. Has anybody used these tires with/without a lift. Can I do this without any mod's. The truck seems to sit higher than other stock 4x4's from the factory. any suggestions appreciated. Want an aggressive all-terrain that is larger than the stock tire. Drive 50 miles one way to work so mud grips are really not feasible.

thanks

Yes, a few people on here have done it. Just scroll back in the two wheel/tire forums a month and I'm sure you'll get all the info and pictures you need. Crank the front torson bar and trim some plastic.

Consider your fuel economy in the toilet. They are large, heavy tires. I put on the 285/70's 3 days after I bought my 03 Screw 4x4 and have yet to get better than 12mpg under any driving conditions. 8k miles and waiting. I have'nt had any fuel economy runs, but my similarly equipped 99 Supercab got 12-16mpg under similar driving conditions. But, you have 3.55 gears so you may do a little better.

The 315/70R17 does not have raised white lettering, if you care.

I really want to go back with the original tire size b/c of everything besides appearance. I think i have decided to go with Bridgestone a/t dueler Revo's 265/70/17. I currently get 15.3 mpg on the highway.

My 99 4x4 had Goodyear Wrangler AT/S from the factory Replaced them Sept 02 with 265/70R17 Revos and loved them. Sold the truck to my in-laws in June and got a new Screw. Replaced the Wrangler RT/S right away with the BFG AT's because of their repuation and the size. I wish I got Revos again.

As was already mentioned, the 315s will throw your hopes of decent MPG away. In my opinion, they're not the tires to choose if you have to drive 100 miles per day with stock gearing. You'll hate them in no time. Luckily, I only have to put on 30 per day, so I like mine

got the revo's on and they look sharp. the only disappointment so far is that they don't look big enough for the truck. I think a 285 or 305 series might have been better looking.

I agree completely. It is a cooling looking tire, but a 265/70R17 tire does not fill the wheel well on 4wd F-150's.

Bridgestone should really make this tire in 285 and 305. I have already put about 1k miles on my tires. I played in the mud and also on some real slick muddy roads. So far the tires are great as far as performance goes. Only draw back is the size. thanks for all the advice.

Get the 315's

I just got a set today, yall are gonna hate me $445 brand new and arrived the next day. O and yes thats wholesale not retail, but right now they're sittin collecting dust because my truck needs about 2 more weeks worth of work before the body shop is done. And that was before i hit the roof at the ford dealer today when i saw a used door on the side of my truck, so its looking like it'll be a lil longer now since they get to put another door on it.

FYI its a 2002 FX-4 with 5.4. I say go with the 315's and drive the crap outta it. Don't worry bout gearing or fuel mileage, that crap is for Taurus drivers.

I can beat that...

$300 for 4 of them. On a Hummer H2 long enough to get it to the tire store for the G-ride conversion. Still had the little stringers on them.

Call your local Hummer dealer. Chances are he's got a pile of them in the back

Thumbs up

I just got the 315's excellent all around tire. I put them on just before a long trip moose hunting in northern ontario, they worked beautifully.
I turned up the torsion bars 2.5 turns and had to trim a little off the lower valance, also had to trim the back side of the rear fender flares, just a bit.
I have the 5.4 /3:73 Lariat SCrew with FX4 and averaged 16 mpg (imperial gallon) on the trip, best tank 17.5mpg.
I should also tell you that I have a Ravin exhaust, and AirRaid intake, AmsOil synthetic everywhere including PS pump.

My 2cents..... I say get them, they work great on/off road and look great.
