Post Auto Trans ReCalibrator

Greeting Everyone!!!

Have been lurking for the last few days and have decided to join you folks. Hope to contribute in anyway I can. Now to my question...does anyone have any experience with subject device? I'm planning on putting Michelin 175/70R16s (I'm too cheap to buy larger rims just yet) on my truck and was searching the internet to figure out how to recalibrate the speedometer. Thought I had things well in hand until I came across literature for subject device and how it "helps". Kind of scared me. Thought all I'd have to do was change the VSS driven gear. Given what was said this thing will do I'm also now worried it might bump signals with my future goal of also acquiring a Superchip. Any thoughts??

Jerry

Ok Folks, sorry. Just noticed why no one is taking my question seriously. I meant to say 275/70R16.

Cool

If you plan to get a Superchip, post in the computer section, I *think* they can fix your speedo with the chip..

175's would be a little small heheh
What size do you have now? As long as the overall diameter doesn't change much you'll be ok..

F150Y1997,

You are in luck. The 97-98 F-150s can be corrected by changing the gear that drives the VSS. You need a pink 19 tooth gear.

All, Thanks for the comeback. When I originally posted it was out of desperation with trying to figure out the VSS driven gear recalb. Hence the question about the Trans Auto ReCalibrator. But I think I'm getting to the end of my tunnel. As JMC states, changing the driven gear will solve my problem. But here is the rub. I tried backing into the formula to figure out what the tranny drive gear tooth count was and doing the math for an 8 tooth gear (assumption here) and 235/70R16 tires, which Ford says should be on this truck, with my 3.55 axel, yeilds a driven gear for the VSS with 19.78 teeth. Well, being the unlucky guy that I am, when I pulled out the VSS and looked at the gear it was Red with 21 teeth. Now I understand there will/should be a "range" but I thought it'd be rounded up to 20 teeth not 21. I've yet to crawl under the truck and get the tranny tag number. Now I'm torn between getting 265/75R16 or 275/70R16 tires. Doing the math the driven gear comes to 18.097 and 18.383 respectively, assuming an 8 tooth drive gear again. So, rounding up, JMC's 19 tooth gear seems to be on the money and seems to follow my situation. I'd just like to know what I've overlooked in factoring in here since my original VSS driven gear has 21 teeth.
