Question Is it best to rotate crisscross or front to back..?

What is the best way to rotate your tires to get the most life out of them.. back to front, or crisscross?

crisscross because there is always one side that drives harder than the other side. If you don't, the right tires will have less rubber. As I recall the front tires come straight back, and the rear tires crisscross to the front.

Ohhhh... really I didn't know that! So the front tires come straight to the back wheels, and the back wheels crisscross when on the front..?

I only do front to back. In the past I've had radial tires that got warped belts because of them roatating in the opposite direction than when first installed. No more criss-cross for me.

you will seperate the belts by reversing the direction of travel when you criss cross them...it used to be good for bias tire but the rules changed with radials

I crisscross my tires from LR to RF and RR to LF because the rear get differnet wear than the front and the right side get different wear then the left so this gives all tires average wear thoughout the truck.

I thought separating belts was a problem when radials first came out. Certainly you won't get a separated belt on every tire the first time you crisscross it. If that were the case then I would have a driveway full of tires with separated belts.

I can't remember the last time I heard someone complain about a separated belt in their tire.

There was an article in Hot Rod Magazine about common auto myths and the separated belt issue was one of the topics.
They stated that they had checked with the major manufacturers and that they all said to "Rotate freely" unless you have specific directional tires or miss-matched sizes front and rear.
