Tire and Wheel Help

I own a 2003 F-150 Supercrew 4x4 that currently has 255x75xR16's on it. Can someone tell me that owns a supercrew truck or another truck with the same specs. what size tire I should upgrade to? I am looking for bigger all around. I do not want a huge lift, but am willing to put a 2 or 3" under it. I am completely ignorant to this subject, any help is appreciated. Pictures would be nice to see if you know any sites.

285/75R16 will fit without a lift
305/75R16 may fit with just some trimming of some plastic and cranking the torsion bar

My truck with 285/70R17 which is the same size as 285/75R16.

My Screw came with the same setup. I first installed my 285/75-16 BFG's on the stock rims. They were not even close to touching anything. I then installed them on 16x10 Eagle Alloys. I had to trim about 1/2 inch of plastic off the front bumper's lower plastic valance because of the 10 inch rims. Several members have fit 305/70-16's (33x12.50) on 16x10 inch rims by simply trimming a little of the front bumper's lower plastic valance and/or cranking up the torsion bars. Here's a pic of my screw at stock height with 16x10's and 285/75-16 (33x11.50) BFG's.
