35s with 3.55 rear end?
I am putting 35s on my truck and I was wondering if anyone has them with there stock 3.55 rear end, or is a rear end upgade a must. If you do have to upgrade, should I go with 4.10 or 4.56. I really would like to keep the stock one though. Thanks...

Chris,
I have the 3.55 with 35" BFG's MT's. I myself haven't noticed much difference on highways, but up hills there's a difference, downshifting, loss of speed. As for towing, I usually turn the overdrive off so as not to overheat the tranny from downshifting to often.I haul 3000 pounds of gravel about three times a week and it still gets up and goes. With your mods you should be fine. If I had the chance to upgrade I'd go with 4.56. I don't think I will be doing it in the near future since all the cash is going towards expanding the house.

Chris,
I have 35's on mine with the 3.55 rearend and haven't really noticed a big difference. I live in So. Cal. so I do a lot of highway driving, but even when I am hauling it still gets up and moves. For me upgrading the rear is pretty far down the road, if at all.

Hey, good topic Chris - I have been waiting to decide between 33's or 35's, I'm just like you I really like to do my own work if I can, and I really don't want to mess with gears if I don't have to - besides, I'm not "racing" around town in my truck anyway, thats not why I bought it. Sounds to me like 4.10-4.56 would be 'nice to have' and probably make the truck seem snappier upon acceleration or if you were towing a heavy load, but I don't think it is absolute (espically since you have other mods to increase hp/torque over just a stock engine) - I think I've made my mind up now...now how will I get the truck in to the garage with that increase in height....
BTW Hawaii, sounds like you and me have very similar trucks...I sure would like to see a pic of yours with the eagle alloys and 35's if you have one....

I agree with CAPTAIN. Doing the gears is nice to bring your mileage back and lost torque when using larger tires, but only going to 33's or 35's isn't really a necessity in my book. You don't really lose that much. Now if you were going to 38's or 40's, the choice to re-gear would be more important.
If you have a 4x4, re-gearing would cost somewhere in the area of $1,200(have to do both front and back rears). That is just way too much $$$ for me.
Myself, I'm gonna go with 33's or 35's and a 3" body lift. I don't do enough off roading here in S. Florida to justify the money for a suspension lift. As long as I can fit 35's with just a body lift, I'm happy!
That is the main reason I upgraded to the 7700# payload option. It is basically the F250 light duty truck with an F150 badge on it. It also comes with 3.73 gearing, which will help with the larger tires.

Rain??? wow, its been sooo long since those of us in the southeast have seen rain I barely remember what it looks like...I'm glad at least someone in the world is getting some. We have been under a watering ban since May of this year. (So that means I only have a limited/selected time where I can wash my toys without getting in trouble...) - that sounds great Hawaii, thanks

Chris,
I have a 3" body lift and 35" BFG's. I did notice a difference, mostly up hills. I have the 3.55LS but would like to go to 4.56's. I've been driving to Pittsburgh, about 60 miles from my house, every couple weeks. Driving on the highway doesn't seem bad but the truck does kick out of overdrive more often than it used to. The $$$ to swap to 4.56's is out of my reach right now. So, I'll live with what i have.

Hi Hawaiian,
Is it still raining over there? Which island are you on? I'm going to Honolulu on the 29th and I just wondered if I should expect rain for the whole week while I'm there.
