Front brake Help!
Front brake Help!
My front pads were shot so i replaced them yesterday. Today 1st drive about 15min i get there and the brakes stink and drivers side is smoking! Not sure what I could have done wrong it seemed pretty straight forward.
I removed the 2 13mm bolts from the rear of the inner part of the caliper, pulled that part off. Dropped new pads in the frame, retracted the pistons with a clamp and bolted back together.
I didnt see any reason to remove the entire caliper assy, the frame part stayed on the truck.
Any Ideas?

Thanks!

Ugggh took it apart and found the problem. The bottom pin on BOTH slides is frozen. Tried everything to get them out but they are in there solid. Sucky part is you cant buy just that part you have to buy whole new calipers and now bleed the system and everything just for a stupid frozen pin....
Bummer, jbeck!
Well, at least you have an excuse for changing out the brake fluid. Everyone seems pretty insistent about that, although I've never done it on any of my 100K mile vehicles in the past (Tauruses). Maybe this is a weak point of the braking system on these vehicles - corrosion.
Good luck,
Chiz

You could buy the calipers, just use the bridge and not the pistons and keep from having to break open the fluid lines. try a wrecking yard for the calipers since you don't really care about the hyd.
actually turned out that nobody except the dealer sells the bracket part. The guy at autozone was wrong when he told me that they came with the calipers. The dealer would have to special order the bracket and it would be $110/side without the pins or hardware. So instead i found a pin/hardware kit at napa that was about $27. I heated the bracket with torches and was able to work the old pins out and rebuild the brackets.
Glad you found the pins, I was getting ready to post and tell you they are out there. Glad you saved that bracket they are hard to come by. Up until this year no matter what kind of car it was you had to visit the dealer. Now Dorman/Motormite has started to make a few, not sure if they make one on our trucks yet.
