I have a 97 F-150 supercab with the off-road package. I have the stock 17' wheels, and I am looking for wider tires. I have looked through most of the tire sites looking for the widest tires on a stock wheel. The widest tire tread I could find was around 9.5 inch. Is this the widest tire I can put on the stock wheels? I believe the stock wheels are 17 X 8.
I was also thinking about going down to a 16 inch wheel for a wider tire but I was having a problem finding wheels that were wider then 8 inch. I would like to get some 16X10's to get a wider tire patch. Any suggestions?
One last question, I was curious if putting a sun roof in would weaken the frame?

 

First of all the stock 17 inch ORP wheels were 17 X 7.5 inches. It should be noted on the door sticker on the drivers side of the truck. Most that switch to 16 inch wheels go to 16 X 8 because they have a good tire selection and the tires do not protrude too far out of the wheel wells to throw gravel and mud up the side of the truck. 10 inch wide ones do.
