stock 16's on truck that had 17's...

I've recently gotten my hands on some chrome 16" wheels from what looks like a '00 f150 to mount snowtires on this season instead of subjecting my 17's to the winter.

I managed to mount the tires/wheels however I can't get the beauty caps on to cover the lugs/hubs. The 'new' wheels I got are marked for 14mm.. My truck is an '02 so it's got them.. I've mounted the wheels using the nuts that were on my 17's but the beauty covers won't go on because the lugnuts are to long, and they don't seem to have a ridge to snap into like I would expect from looking at the springclips.

So time for the million dollar question: Are the lugnuts different from chrome 16's to chrome 17's??? If not, does anyone make a cap similiar to what you would find on a weld draglite that will fit a stock 16" wheel? The 17" lugs are about 2" long and closed, looks like they need to be about 1/2" shorter. I'm putting the 17's back on in the spring or I'd just hack them up...

Sounds like you've got the FX4 package. That package had closed lug nuts which won't work with a cap that pops over the nuts. You need the open ended nuts from a non FX4 with 14mm studs.

Gotcha! Actually I figured that out after a trip to several parts stores, tire stores, and eventually a pair of ford dealerships.. Sadly I still don't have a full set of nuts, but I ordered them from one of the dealerships and should have them on monday.

It wasn't a total loss today. I did manage one entertaining moment on my quest from the parts guy at the dealership. It's the first time I've ever heard "Sir, are your nuts exposed?" outside of a bad **** flick.
