Question How big can I go??

Hello, new memeber here. Just bought a 97 F150 XLT reg Cab 4X4 WITHOUT the ORP, I found it very hard to find one with so I opted for one without. Now I am ready to make it look similar if not better then teh ORP. I want to make it look a little beefier, I do not want something as high as a 4" lift. SO my question is: How large of tires can I put on my truck without them hitting the wheel wells? I want the truck to sit up a bit higher also. I was thinking something along the lines of a 285/75/16? Even getting something as simply as a 2" lift I would not mind but can I even find one? WOuld I be better off just buying some secondhand ORP tires and rims and bolt them on? PLEASE HELP. Thanks

Valerossi,

I have the ORP and decided I didn't care for the 17" wheels, (mainly because of tire availability) I went to the local shop and traded them for '99 16" Aluminium wheels and 285/75/16 A/T's . It looks good. I have had no problems with this setup.

As for a 2" lift, I haven't seen anything. One thing you could do is add a leaf to the rear and crank the torsion bars up a bit. That'll probably give you the (stance) look you want at a minimal price. Someone on here has done this. Coupled with the 285's or even 305's this would look pretty beefy at minimal effort.

Happy 4 wheelin!

Thumbs up

This is where I saw the extra spring idea. I'm sure RED-ONE would shed some light if needed.

I finally got my 285/75/r16 BFG Mud Terrains put on my truck. Compared to the original LT245/75/r16, they look awesome! Clearance isn't a problem. I hope to test them out soon. I've got the plastic mud flaps, only applicable with flaresides, and they come as close as 1/2" when turned all the way in. But that's as close as they'll come, even when the suspension is compressing. You can probably get a 4" suspension lift, but I wouldn't go with a 2" body lift. I'd go with at least 4" also.

Just so everyone knows that it can be done, I have a 4x2 at stock height w- 16x8 Epic Lakota wheels (chrome version of American Racing Atlas, AR makes Epic) and 285-75-16 tires. They do not rub lock to lock or hit the mud flaps on my flareside. The look is of a 4x4 on a 4x2.

A stock 4x4 can run 33x12.5x16's without a lift. As far as a 2" lift, you can get a 2" body lift from Performance Products

I don't have any way to post a pic of my truck as my internet access is at work and we don't have a scanner or dig camera. I am hoping that I can post some pics sooner or later as a few people have asked to see the big tired 4x2.
Sorry for the inconvience
