What kind of brakes do u recommend??
Just had my '00 f-150 in for a oil change and tire rotation.I told the wife to tell the guy about a squeal when i turn right. I call her later on and she said i needed front brakes and they could do them for the LOW price of $239(LOL) . I only have 25,700 on the truck --he said they were 2/32 front--4/32 rear.I told her to tell him don't do it.I had a feeling it might be the brakes, but the squeal only happened when i turned right.Anyways i am going to do front brakes. I just never did them on a truck before. Can't be much difference from a car can it?? Should i stick w/factory or is there a better brand i should use?
becareful with that question! The answers can get as bad as the oil debate.
it is different from a car in that a truck is big and heavy, other than that it is very similar.
I personnally have had great results with the OEM Brembo's from tire rack as well as the EBC 6000's from tire rack. I have had horrible luck with all the OEM options.
do a search here and you will find way more than you needed to know!
the one thing you will need that you might not have is an 18mm socket to get the caliper off.

Brembo makes excellent brake components. Cross drilled rotors can crack if the holes are not cast, and they also reduce the surface area for brake pad contant. Slotted are great by allowing maximum disc surface area and slots to allow the gases to escape which can inhibit optimal good pad-to-rotor contact. Hawk pads are very good, but pricey. As mentioned above, almost anything is better than OEM. Be sure to change the brake fluid while your in there. This should be done once a year regardless since the hydroscopic composition of brake fluid attracts moisture in the lines. ATE blue or gold DOT 4 is excellent.
Those are both great brake fluids, however make sure that you only use what ford specs out because they have been having some problems with the newer brake fluids not working properly.
yes you should change your fluid no less than every 2 years regardless. (Mainly because of the ABS system)
FYI The Brembo's I was refering to are the OEM replacements. They are not the high perf ones They are not slotted or drilled.

Lenny,
If the truck only has about 26,000 miles, why not get them replaced under warranty and then when they go bad again, replace them with the good stuff after warranty runs out? I just went throught this with my truck with 26,000 miles. The pads they won't cover, period, that's a wearable item. . but the rotors they will cover and don't let them tell you they don't because they tried to tell me that. I had my truck brakes done, all 4 corners, new rotors and pads, for $90 and some change.
