will they fit???

I installed a 3" PA body lift on my 2001 4x4 F150 and am wondering if 34" tires will fit with minor trimming? If someone could please tell me what the numbers like 315-75-16 mean it would also be greatly appreciated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

35's will fit with a 3 inch body lift. As for sizes, (315/75-16 for example) 315 is the width of the tire in millimeters. 75 is the aspect ratio, or relation of height vs. width and 16 is the rim size. For a quick conversion:
265/75-16=32x10.50-16
265/70-17=32x10.50-17
285/75-16=33x11.50-16
285/70-17=33x11.50-17
295/75-16=34x12.00-16
305/70-16=33x12.50-16
315/75-16=35x12.50-16
315/70-17=35x12.50-17
Keep in mind that companies usually round tire sizes up, so what they call a 33 inch tire will usually be around 32 3/4 inches tall.

What gears should I buy if I put on a 3" body lift and 33" tires. I found a great deal on a rim and tire package on DesertRat.com, they are 33" Continental tires and 15" rims for $800. Is that a good deal and is Continental a good brand? Thanks for your reply Wandell

You can't run a 15 inch rim on your truck. The rear brakes are too big for a 15 inch rim to fit over. You will have to run a 16 inch or larger wheel. I have never had a set of those so I don't have any experience with them. You have the right idea though. Places like Desert Rat and 4Wheel Parts usually have some pretty good package deals.

Thanks, you just saved me the hassle of sending those rims and tires back. Would 4.56 gears be too much or would 4.10 gears be too little. How do you like your tires (sound, grip, drivability, etc...)? Can I still put stuff in my bed like loads of mulch or heavy equipment? Again thanks for your help.

So far I love my BFG's after 20,000 miles. They ride smooth with no noise and appear to be holding up well. Changing gears is an expensive mod. Some people do, some don't. I have 3.55 gears with 33's and am happy with the performance. Some people are happy with the performance of their 3.55's and 35 inch tires while others say re-gearing is a must. If your truck came with 32's, I doubt that you would notice a difference if you went to a 33 inch tire. However if you tow or haul heavy loads then you may need to. If you are not going to lift the truck your best bet would probably be to go with 33's.

Doh! I meant if you are not going to lift the truck any higher. I personally like a little room in the wheelwells of an off-road truck.

Do you know how much gears cost and how much the average installation would cost? I have not looked into them very much. Is the bed still usable witha body lift? I often put mulch in the bed during the summer time. Can I put 33's on my stock rims? Just looking to save money.

Yes, the bed is still usable after a body lift. The kit includes two metal pieces to reinforce the center portion of the bed. You could mount a 33 or 35 inch tire on your stock wheels. I had my 33's on my stock 16x7 Ford rims for a month or so until I found a deal on some aftermarket 16x10's. The gears are going to cost a good bit. I don't have an exact figure, but you can get prices for the ring and pinion gears from magazines, catalogs or online. The price to install them will vary from place to place. Keep in mind you have to install gears in the front and rear differentials.

So I will need to buy to sets of gears? Do you have pics of your tires on your stock rims? I am wondering if they would look good. What other items should I buy with my lift (new shocks, sway bar, better brakes, etc....)? Thanks for the superb help you have given me. I like getting answers to my questions as soon as I check my posts. Thanks wandell

I have a gallary here but I don't have any pics with the stock wheels. I do have some before the lift however. The body lift includes everything you need. You will want to buy some gap guards to cover the gap between the body and frame. Performance Accessories sells these also. They are basically thick pieces of pre cut rubber.

My local truck shop has a Rancho 4" Suspension Lift for $900. Can I put the Rancho lift with a body lift? I have heard that causes problems, but I am not sure. They also have a special on the BF Goodrich tires (I believe that is what it was) buy 3 get one free. Is that good or is something wrong with them? As you can tell I am torn with suspension lift w/ body lift or just body lift.

If you just want to be able to run 33's then I would say jgo with whatever fits your wallet the best. Personall I like suspension over body lifts cuz you get performance gains from the suspension. I also don't like the look of body lifts ussually. Re-gearing you truck would run over a grand easy. With 33's don't worry about it. Fort your info, yes you can combine a suspension lift with a body lift. As far as the buy 3 get 1 free that ussually is an offer run by ProComp. There would be nothing wrong with the tier unless they told you there was anything wrong. If you use 33's then 4.10 would be plenty of gear for you. 4.56's would in my opinion be way to low(numerically high) for your system. Currently I am running 35's with my stock gearing(3.55) and really not liking it at all. hope this helps.
