I am looking to replace stock Goodyear rt/s's. Will 285/70/70's fit with no rubbing even at full flex? If so, which tire looks best--Goodyear Wrangler MT/R, or BFG AT/KO in the 285 size. I have 3.73 gears so I should be fine I think. But, I wonder how much it will affect my speedometer and other components? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I have currently on order a set of BFG AT/KO's in the 265/70/17 size but am afraid they will look silly with my FX4 package. HELP!!!!!!!!

 

You will have no problems fitting 285/70-17's on your FX4. They are only an inch taller and an inch wider than your stock 265/70-17's(33x11.50 vs 32x10.50). Some members here and at FTW have fit 315/70-17(35x12.50) BFG AT KO's on stock 4x4's using stock 17x7.5 inch rims by cranking up the torsion bars and trimming a little off the front bumper's lower plastic valance. The 315/70-17 BFG AT KO's are the stock tires on the Hummer H2 and are usually a lot cheaper than the other 35 inch BFG's and even the other 32 and 33 inch BFG's. This may be something to consider. Personally, I would not get anything smaller than a 285. As far a BFG AT KO vs Goodyear MTR, get the BFG's if you do mostly highway driving or get the MTR's if you do a lot of off-roading.

 

I'm also interested in putting larger tires on my stock 17" rims. I basically want to go as big as possible without spending a fortune. I noticed that the 285/70/17s are $185 each, while the 315/70/17s are only $115 each! Will those big too big for my '00 F150 4X4 Supercab Lariat? You really can't go wrong for that price.

 

I replaced the RT/S tires afer 3 days and 200 miles with the 285/70R17 BFG KO. No timming required. I'll have to get some pics up with the new tires soon.

 

Where is the best place to get the 285/70/17 KOs? I'm price shopping and the cheapest I can find them is $189 each. You guys know where I can get them cheaper? Thanks.

 

Just got my new GY Wrangler MT/R's put on and they look sweet. almost went with the 305's, but wasn't too keen about messin with the torsion bars. 285's look just right

I paid $200/ea installed at a local tire shop. Sam's had them cheaper at $183/ea, but did not offer to buy my old tires. Also, check out Costco.
