4x4 went from 6 bolt to 5 bolt?????

I was wondering why 4x4s went from 6-bolt (as on my 2k F-150 Lariat) to a 5 bolt pattern.

i think this is a bit like remembering what your girlfriends haircut was like after she comes home with a new one.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the 97+ F-150's only have a 5x135mm, or a 7 bolt configuration(Can you say obscure, and no, I don't know the bolt circle dia.). The 7 Bolt was used on the 7700 Payload pkg., who knows why...

Maybe you were missing a bolt on one of those?

Is there a purpose to this question? Maybe an approach from a different angle might work.

Good point, well...............

I was looking into changing the "teardrop" style wheels from my 2000 Lariat to one of the newer style F-150 wheels and noticed they were 5 bolt instead of 6 and was wondering why the change as my wheel choices are now very limited.

I've owned a 95 F150, 97 F150, 98 Expedition, & an 02 F150, all or them 4x4, and they were all 5 bolt.

I've never seen a 6 bolt F150 (of course that doesn't mean they don't exsist, I've just never seen one.)

Ok here it goes, I feel so farking stupid right now. I'd like to make an excuse for it but there isn't.

The hub cap threw me off, as it gives the impression that it's a 6 bolt.

I got smart for some reason and took the cover off................

It is a 5 bolt. Sorry guys.

Feel free to taunt and laugh at me know.

it's cool, probably just the canadian Metric system throwing you off.

Or the new, more relaxed marijuana laws.

More relaxed, heh heh

shovies have doen 6 bolt and maybe you thought "why not, its definitelty possible"

dont sweat it. we all goof up here and there.

which brings us to "why does the centre cap have 6 bolts when the rim is only 5"?

Is that silly design or is it me?

The 03 Expeditions do have 6 lug wheels. The 04 F150 will more than likely have the same configuration.

Simple answer: Get a new axle (Dana or other aftermarket).

Better question: Why would you want to?

Not sure when you remember a FORD having a 6 lug on an F-150 because as long as I have owned a Ford they have been 5 lugs. The bolt pattern may change but they have been 5 lugs. The Chebbies are 6 lugs and it has nothing to do with 4x2 or 4x4.
As for converting to a 6 lug not sure why you would want to do that but it is possible with custom made spacers. Try
