Question Brake Adjustment

Has anyone else had to repeatedly take their truck in to readjust the brakes. I just had new pads put on my 98 2WD and initially I would barely touch the brake paddle and stop my truck. Shortly after the brake job, my brake paddle started going almost to the floor before stopping. What's up with this?

yep..love those drums...you can do 2 things 1. replace the adjuster levers on both wheels..if you look at them they will probably have a groove cut in the center of them or one at least...also make sure the adjuster is well lubed. 2. start backing into your parking spaces...the theory being that you,ll be adjusting your brakes each time you park...or do what I do..each time they fell funky break out the adjusting tool and crawl under the rear and crank the star wheel 10 times for each side...you want to move the lever downward each time...also by the life time pads...you'll be replacing them every 6 months...really..the disc's every 9 months....the 97-98's are notourious for eating brakes

Recall on Adjuster Levels

TexfordD,

Do you know if there was a recall on the brake adjuster levels for the 97-98s?

don,t buy cheap, get it with the lifetime warrenty so you can get it free each time after the initial outlay. get new components like springs and retainers and adjusters(see post above)
