Standard Tires on 98 F-150 Ext. Cab Lariat
I have a 98 F-150 V-8 Super Cam Lariat with 255-70-16 tires on it, can I go a little bigger without sacrificng ride and screwing anything up? Sams club listed 265/75/16 or 275/70/16, but sears and NTB only reference the standard tire. I don't know a lot about tire sizes so bear with me. Sears suggested 245/70/16, they were a little taller but not as wide? Do I have this right. Thanks for the help if anyone can.
A 245/70/16 is shorter and narrower than a 255/70/16. The first number is the width of the tire in mm. The 2nd number is the aspect ratio. It says how tall the sidewalls are in relation to the tread width. In this case its 70, so 250 x 70% = 178.5mm. The last number is the wheel size in inches. The 265/70/16s will be about 1/2" taller than what you have now and an inch or two wider. If you're worried about power loss stick with 265/75/16s. Its about an inch taller than what you have now and about an inch or so wider. You can fit up to a 285/75/16 with no rubbing or trimming on a stock 4x4.
