Question Rotor Price vs Quality

What is up with all the different prices for disks/rotors? Why are the Motorcrafts more expensive than the Brembos?

These prices are for my 98 f150 xl 4.2L 2WD with disks front and drums rear........I think, but I am not sure, that I have only rear abs. How can you tell?

Powerslot at TruckPerformance $118.99 each
Motorcraft at FordPartsOnline $130.95 each
Brembo OEM at TireRack $71.00 each

The ones at Napa, I'm told, are even cheaper.

Where does price vs quality come into this equation? What is the best?
-Any help y'all could give would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the price/quality thing, I dropped in to find out the answer myself.

The front and rear ABS came with disk brakes in the front and rear. You have only rear ABS if you have rear drums.

Thanks greencew.
I wish brakes could be like power tools...you get what you pay for.

Well, I have the PowerSlot rotors on my truck and am very pleased with them. I also think the best money vs quality rotor is the Brembo's. All Brembo products are first rate so it is a product you can trust to perform well. Don't think you can beat the price and the quality. Don't forget, the Powerslot's are a slotted rotor vs the Brembo which is a standard replacement rotor.

I've been looking myself and I think I'll buy the Brembo's and go with the EBC 6000 Series Truck/SUV Pads from TireRack.com. I have lived with shake and shimmy from warped rotors about long enough.

greencrew is wrong. You can have front and rear ABS with front disc/rear drums or front/rear discs. I'm 100% positive on this because my 97 has rear drums but also has ABS on all 4 wheels. Not sure how to determine which models got it and which didn't other than peeking your head underneath to see if the wire goes down to each wheel sensor in the front.
It's actually what they call a 3 channel system. As you have two front channels ( one at each wheel) and then one rear sensor that sits on top of the rear axle center section.

As far as price vs quality you do sometimes get what you pay for but then again you can be paying for a name too. Stick with Motorcrafts, Brembo, Powerslots ( I'm not 100% sure on quality), and/or Bendix. Right now I have the bendix rotors and pads (Titianuim, mkd679) and they do a fair job. 33k and no real warpage yet, not grooved.

Bendix also just came out with their new own version of the ceramic pads. They do make a set for the F150/expy. # D679ct

Well, I took a look at my pads/rotors today, I'm running Bendix titanium pads and Bendix rotors. After about 25-30K or about 1 year I'm not sure if I like the results. They still stop fine and there's really no warpage issues. It's just that they seemed to be grooving faster than I would like. Not enough to hurt anything right now but it's enough you can visually and physically feel it. I'm not sure why they are grooving like they are. Like I said I put on pads, rotors, shocks, and hub bearings all around the same time. I've never repalced or even checked the rear brakes in the 66K miles I've owned the truck. Any other ideas on what could be causing the grooving or am I worried for nothing?

Cool

I use Brembo OEM replacements cryo treated. $100 each, excellent.......real steel, and with the treatment i would say they are almost as hard as stainless steel.

With those being so hard don't they chew the rotors up with every set of pads.
