Tire and Wheel Question?

I running stock 17x7.5 rims with 285/70 BFG MT, on my 2001 F-150 ext cab.

My question is, I am wanting to buy a set of after market rims, witch is Atlas 17x10's or Mickey Thompson Classic II 17x9. Is my 285/70 BFG's to small for the 17x10 rim. Do I need to buy a larger and wider tire for the wider wheel or will the 285/70 fit the wheel good. I would rather go with the 17x10 instead of the 17x9. I what something to stick out a little. I figure with the 17x10 with a backspacing of 4.5, it will look good. I just what to know if my current tire will the 10in wide rim good or do I need a bigger tire. Thanks!

BFG's website recommends a 7.5 to 9" wheel for that tire size. You could get away with the MT wheel, but I wouldn't recommend the 10" wheel. Plus (no offense to those who may have them) I see those Atlas wheels everywhere!

I just installed about a month ago with AR Atlas with 305/70R16 on my FX4. I went with 16X10, I wanted the tire to stick out a little and there is more 16" tires then 17". I'm very happy with the set up Here is the pict

Do those wheels have the 5" backspacing? That's all I've seen for AR 5/135 wheels. Do you have any rubbing issues with the increased backspacing and larger tires? I wish AR would come out with a 17x10 Python wheel - I'd love to pick up a set of them. Anyway, looks good -

I believe they are 4 1/2" back spacing. I had to cut about 2" of the front bumper's lower valance. Yes you are rite wish AR would make 10" Python rims. I'm not sure about 17", I had hard time finding tires in 17".
