Take the truck for brake service at 30,000 miles and was told that the rotors were warped. They were replaced under warranty but It was suggested that I replace the pads (not under warranty) seeing as the brakes were apart anyway.... Can I expect to be replacing rotors every 30,000 miles????

 

Forgot to mention that the truck is a 2000 F150.

 

you are lucky 30k is good! most oem brakes will only go about 25-35k

 

How much are they chraging for the uncovered work (pads & labor for pads)? I would take the new rotors and do the pads yourself. However, I would assume the labor is cheap if not free for the pads as they have to take them off to get the rotors off anyway. Just ened to drive the piston back in the caliper. If you are not so handy and would end up having a shop repalce the pads later anywa,y might as well let the dealer do it now if the price is reasonable.

 

I had the dealer go ahead and replace the pads as we are still covered in snow here in Ontario and I dont have a place to do the work myself. Im still having the dealer do all the work on the truck while its under warranty to avoid any hassles should something break. What I thought was strange was the fact that the replacement pads are guaranteed for life but the original ones weren't. If these are good for life, why not put them on the truck on the assembly line. ??? Anyway, all the work is done and all is well.

 

Once the truck is out of warranty, the first time you have warped rotors consider replacing them with quality aftermarket rotors. Both PowerSlot and Brembo are good quality replacements. The Powerslot is a slotted rotor, while the Brembo rotors are a standard replacement rotor.

 

All the talk of rotors and such and you're complaining of 30k??

 

By the sounds of things, I guess I shouldnt complain. I just thought it was a little strange to replace them this early. My old GMC only went throught 2 sets of rotors in 300,000 KMS. Maybe I just got lucky with it.

 

I jjust replaced the rotors (warped) and pads on my 98 at 48000 miles. I put on EBC slotted rotors and "green" pads. I was astounded by the increased braking. Still want SS lines, but Goodridge is having problems getting the F150 lines out.

 

I had my rotor sturned by the dealer at 22k miles - I started feeling they were warped at 20 k. The dealer told me it's because the pads are too hard and the rotors are too soft.
I now have 44 k, and they need turned again - more likely replaced.
