Spare tire cable mount
Spare tire cable mount
I was driving my '97 F150 the other day, just exited the freeway, came to a stoplight and heard a crash underneath my truck. My spare tire fell off the winch cable under my truck!!
It was a busy intersection, so I only had time to pull forward and grab the spare and the little saddle shaped piece that grabs the hub. Didn't have time to search for any bolts or washers or any other hardware. I have no idea what type of hardware attaches the saddle to the cable. Anyone know what is used or what I can use? I have the tire, the saddle, and the cable is all still there, but what attaches it all? Thanks,
Mike "who's glad he wasn't driving 70mph when the tire fell off"

It has a pressed on piece that goes on the end of the cable and that's where the cradle rests on. If you want the stock setup again, you'll have to replace the entire crank and cable setup.
What you could do is get some of those cable clamp things from Home Depot and attach it at the end of the existing cable. Put the cradle thing on first of course. It might not be to pretty, but should hold it just fine.....Just thinking off the top of my head on that.......
You were pretty lucky to not have it decide to drop while cruising down the highway!
Good luck!
