Question Torsion bars and allignment?

Hey all, I just put 285/70 17's BF Goodrich AT/ KO's on my Supercrew. From reading other posts I adjusted my torsion bars to raise the front end a bit and level out the truck (about an inch).

Here is my question: Did anyone else notice that the steering got lighter? It feels easier to turn the wheel. I'm not sure this is a good thing and I'm wondering if the wheel camber has changed or if I now need an alignment. The truck tracks strait on the road.

I like the way it drives I just want to be sure I'm not going to ruin my new tires.

Thanks

King,
Yes you are correct,it does fell lighter, seem's to turn better and has less body roll. I also have 285/70/17 BFG's on my truck.
I also did adjust my torsion bar's this weekend. I think I went 3 turn's on 1 side and 3.5 on the other.

Even though your truck drive's straight you should get an alignment done and make sure they check the camber/caster angle's on it. That is what will primarily ruin your tire's. I did the t-bar adjust on my 01 Screw and never had any problem's with it either.

Just for comparison's sake take a measurement from the floor through the middle of the tire and see where your at. I am at 39" with my tire's at about 50psi. Where did the shop tell you to run the tire's at for air pressure ?

Thanks for the reply Fall,

When I measure from the floor to the bottom of the fender at the middle of the wheel, I get 38 1/2 inches. What is weird is that I started out turning each torsion bar the same amount (3 turns) but found that the right ride rode much higher (3/4 inch). So I had to lower the right and raise the left to get them even. I think in the end I turned the left side 3 1/2 turns and the right 1 1/2.

I didn't check my pressure, I will do that later today. You are running 50lbs? That seems high to me but I've never had BFG's before. Do you run that front and back?

Thanks

The place that I bought them at said to run at 55-60 psi. That's insane ! Right now I had them at 50 & lowered to 46 yesterday for a softer ride. The difference from side to side height might be to compensate for the fuel tank on the left side, but I'm not sure. Just a guess. I might lower mine a half turn or so.

I have a set of 17x8 Weld rim's that I would like to put on ,but I will have to do a little trimming and I'm not sure if I want to do that or not. I guess it's not really a big deal, just don't like cutting on my new truck. I am running 17"10 spoke's and they look pretty nice,so I'm not sure if I'll sell them or keep them.

I checked my preasure and front/rear are at 35psi. I checked a few other posts on this site and everyone seems to be between 35 and 40 psi. I think 50 would be definitely classified as "high". The inside of the door has reccomended PSI regardless of tire selection.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask, did you get your 03 aligned yet? I wonder if they found the camber to be off.

On the rims, I usually prefer to go with aftermarket rims too. I had AR Pythons on my last truck (Dodge 2500 quad cab) because Dodge stock rims were so ugly. However, I like the factory mags so much on the King Ranch, that I'm sticking with them.

Good luck and thanks for the information
