Angry Squeaks!!!

There is this squeak that I can't get rid of. Appears to be coming from the front. It squeaks at slower speeds like crawling in traffic or garages and when brakes are applied, the squeak disappears. Also at freeway speeds it is not present. I have repacked the front bearings and it is still there. I have applied disc brake quiet - guess what still there. I have cross drilled & slotted rotors but have semi metallic pads. I have bought a set of NAPA ceramix because it has been suggested that the old pads might be the problem. Also, when going up parking lot ramps, the squeak also appears.

Does anyone know what could be causing the squeak? I haven't checked my rear brakes yet.

Normally I would say brake dust, but beings you have cross-drilled and slotted rotors, that should not be an issue. It is probablly your semi-metallic pads. They are "semi" metallic (metal) and metal on metal squeaks. I think the original pads are more of an organic base,(i'm not 100% sure) But Semi-metallic's are known to squeak until they heat up to a higher temperature. So when you are just cruising slowly in the parking lot, the pads are just barely touching and they are talking to you. If anything, go back to the Ford pads if you want it quiet, if you want performance stay with the semi's or try the ceramix one's that you suggested. If those don't work, your stuck with the noise.
On a more tragic side of things, your calipers may not be retracting the pads far enough from the rotor. It is something to look into.
Good Luck
Brian

yep he is right, pull your caliper slide pins out and clean and lube em real good so your pad can retract better. i learned this the hard way after eating rotors and having noisy brakes

Hey Brian & Poolvibe.

Thanks for the advice. I pulled the old pads & replaced them with the Ceramix. Guess what no more squeaks!

Thanks for all your help!
