Question FX4 Rims & BFG tires

I have a 2002 F150XLT Supercrew 4x4. I'm looking to put a 3" body lift on my truck. I've read some of the other messages about putting BFG AT KO's 315/70R/17's on the FX4 Rim. BFG's spec for this size says to use a rim of 8.5"-10". The FX4 rim is only 7.5" wide. Does this really work? Some of my co-workers say that the rim is not wide enough, and the tire will bulge out due to the narrow rim width. A couple of people on the message board say they have done it and that it looks great with no problems. I don't have any pictures to look at, and I'd hate to buy the tires and take them to be balanced and mounted only to find out that they really won't work after all. The lift and tires will run me about $1000. If I don't lift it and drop back to 33's, I'll have to buy new rims and tires. I figure that this will cost anywhere between $1300 and $1500 . I really would like to use the 315's. Any pictures or info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Just as my rule of thumb, I try not to use wheels that are more than 4" thinner then the tire they're going on (at least for moderate sized tires). I have seen people on here (a guy named kev) who has done what you're talking about, but I have no idea how. I can't see my truck with 35's and only a 3" body lift. Personally, I think I'd put the body lift on with some 33's and aftermarket wheels that'll bump your tires out just enough to let people know you're not running stock. Again, just my opinion.
