Mark I had a 88 F150 that had the paint start flying off after about a year also I think that was when they first started testing out the new clear coat paints and they didn't quite get it right. I remeber driving on the freeway one day and a piece of paint about 10" in diameter went flying off the hood. Luckily for me Ford repainted my whole truck at no cost. Was your truck grey or silver by chance that is the color that really seemed to have problems back then. Like you I also do not brake hard on purpose and I watch the traffic up ahead not just the car in front of me like a lot of knuckle heads do and always plan ahead myself but you can't always plan for numnuts that stop for no reason. You know those people that brake for no appant reason.
