Thumbs up Pro Comp AT's... Long winded..

FYI,

To anyone in the 4X4 Tire market, I did the research.

And, I failed.

I bought the tires that I ruled out first.

And,
I LOVE THEM!

I spent way too much energy on the buyin' new tires decision. I'm sure I heard my computer tell me I have reached the end of the tire selection/reviews/prices/comparisons/color/taste and smell section of the internet. Many times. The wife thought I was nutz for stressing on tires. What can I say? It's a ton'O'cash for these 17's....

I actually came to the conclusion, by internet elimination, that the Goodyear MTR was the tire for my 4X4 Supercrew. GY MTR is probably the BADDEST "MoJo" Lookin' off road performance tire on the market. No doubt it's a digger and a grinner. Gets great owner reviews in every category, including street friendly and mileage. Off Road magazines love it. Discount Tire had the best price @ just less than a $1K mounted with all the Discount Tire warranty (305/70/17) spec is just shy of 34" and I've seen several post here that claim they fit w/o lift of any kind. BFG AT KO was a close second, never actually got a real final price but close to the Goodyear. Probably about a total of $100 more than GY.

I pulled the money out of the bank and was ready to go. No chance of having 33"tall 17 rim MTR or AT KO's in stock anywhere. Ordering 17's was the option. Or, change from 17"factory to 16" aftermarket wheel and get em' now moving the Discount, discount price up to approx. $1300.00++. No where near as nice of wheels as the Ford 17".

On the way to order the MTR, happened to pass a 4 Wheel Parts store and wanted to go price shocks. Drove away with 4 ProComp AT's 33/12.5/17 mount and balance, W/O warranty other than standard ProComp Factory 50K mileage. 4 wheel allignment and [4] Rancho RSX shocks (I installed-bought later that day added to total)]. Total price was $897 OUT THE DOOR FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE. Tires were buy 3 get 1 Free. I even stopped at Discount Tire on the way home and did their 4 tire rotation balance lifetime warranty because they are much more convenient to my home and rotation/balance is the life of any tire...

Here's my conclusion.....

I WIN BIG!!

The ProComp AT's fit my driving conditions much better than the well reviewed, on all type terrain, MTR. I do 90% on road, pull a Ski boat up and down paved ramps and drive Texas to Colorado for skiing 2X's a year. Off Road Play=Virtually none. I'd have bought a Jeep for alot less $$ if I liked to get dirty. Late night deer lease exploration doesn't count unless you were there and brought home pics. 3 day guy trip deer hunting can easily relatively round out to 10% based on avg. 15k/yr miles when it takes 3 months to get all mud out of the small spaces. Pray for rain and it might take 2.

I got a 50K mileage warranty, allignment, 4 shocks and a 12 pack of COLD Silver Bullets for the price of 4 Goodyears.

I LOVE Goodyear! I've been GOODYEAR ONLY for 15+ years. Other than the mild feelings I have for the factory GY RTS's that came on my truck. ((((MADE FOR AMERICA IN IRAQ was the only thing missing-THEY SUCKED in every aspect------------I'm sure "DRY PAVEMENT ONLY" and "NOT INTENDED FOR NORMAL USE" was stamped somewhere on the sidewall))))

I had ruled out the ProComp AT's due to having never actually seen the tire in person. The ProComp web site pic of the AT totally discounts this tires aggressive look. Even this sites members aren't able to get a pic that reps these tires excellent 4X4 dress. Have been able to find 1 bad ProComp AT review on the net and it belonged to a Jeep Nut that regularly sank his toy in H20, mud and sand. He changed from the ProComp AT to a SuperSwamper 38". Not quite the same animal as I was looking to compare with...

I bought em', they're on, and I'm gonna drive on em'.

These tires look awesome! Road noise isn't any different than the quiet, guttless stock RTS's. 33/12.5/17's measure out less than 33" aired @ 35psi but fills out an un-lifted 4X4 wheel well just right. Any lift and I would hafve done 35". These tires are much bigger than the stock 165/70/17. Ride great, wet trac is super, light mud excellent. Will do snow later this month....

Hey Kids, don't rule out teh ProComps. You're not going to see them on the road very often and don't look at the pics on the net. Go see them in person. If your truck isn't street legal, and you trailer it to the deep stuff the GY MTR is the best buy! Or, if you drive a 4X4 on the pavement >50% total time and have to have Ralph Lauren tires Goodyear is still the Bad boy.

I'll bet ya' 4 tires, an allignment,4 shocks and 12 Coors Lights I'll follow the MTR anywhere and in any weather THAT I'D BE WILLING TO TAKE MY TRUCK WITH GY MTR's.

And, I'll still look good drinkin your beer figurin' out how to get those MTR's un-stuck. Remember, I'll follow...

It all has to do with what type of terrain are you WILLING to take your truck. I'll get dirty and deep but I'm not willing to tear up a toy that I spent $30K on. It's 4X4 but not a racer/bogger. I drive this truck to work.

And, I STILL LOVE GOODYEAR! But ProComp has proven very, very good to me. So far.

post some pics of your truck and the new shoes...In the market myself and have it narrowed down to Bridgestone Dueler AT, BFG AT/KO, and the Pro Comp.....

your photos would help in the decision

GpFire,

Good for you. You made up your mind and bought what you wanted. If you are not going to "play" hard on a regular basis there is no need to waste money an something you are not going to use. On the road your ATs will get you any where that the MTRs would have. And if you ever get stuck on the road with them you should have not been out in the first place.

Regards

Sorry it took so long to see your question.

I did keep the stock rims. No fit problem at all. I'll get some pics up here in the next couple of days.

The three on your list are very different, but if it helps, I have pictures of the Dueler A/T Revo on my wife's truck.
