Question Vibration in Steering Wheel on braking

I have an interesting and so far difficult to solve problem. I just purchased a 1995 F-150 two wheel drive, long-bed with the 300 inline six and the 5 speed manual transmission with 93,000 miles on the truck. When I applied moderate to heavy braking the steering wheel moved up and down, not side to side, violently. I had a 1984 F-150 two wheel drive, long-bed with the 300 inline six and the 4 speed transmission with 138,000 miles on the truck and it did the same thing. ( Never tried to fix the problem with the 1984 )

So far I replaced the front rotors, brake pads, front wheel bearings and shocks all around. The problem is a lot less severe, but it is still there. It is worse with the clutch pushed in, it is hardly noticeable with the clutch out and in gear. The tires are in balance with no vibration or shimmy in the steering wheel up to 70+ mph.

Scratching my head on this one.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

Michael

Cool

Balanced tires and wheels can still be slightly out of round. Thoroughly check their runout, the entire suspension, and "all" alignment geometry.

>>>>I had a similar problem on a Taurus SHO one time. It turned out a couple of my tires had separating steel belts that caused the vibrations. The tires were new and were put on by the dealer when I bought it, it was used. I checked all the things you listed before I finally found out what the problem was. I had a couple of different garages check the tires before during some of the multiple rebalance attempts we did but they didn't catch it. Took it to one last tire dealer who properly diagnosed the problem. Ditched the tires and the car drove perfectly.

I had a car that would wobble all over the road, and was hard to keep under control at all. I replaced the front tires, and it drove like it had a full suspension rebuild!
Tires can cause some wierd symptoms,I wouldn't be suprised if it was the tires,,,,,98
