ABS?
I just bought a 98 F150 XLT 4x4 S/C lease return. Both the ABS and the BRAKE lights stayed lit. Turns out it was some kind of ABS valve that needed replacing. It was just replaced today but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Apparently it's rear wheel ABS only.
Yes, the MAJORITY (i dont say this lightly) of Ford trucks are rear-wheel only, considering full abs is only standard on lariat trims I believe. You would think itd be front wheel instead of rear, but this isnt the case. Rear wheel is gennereally required since if you jump on the brakes hard, and its slippery, you would be fish-tailing all over creation without abs. My .02 cents.

Sounds like when mine went bad. Do you know if you have a speedo gear on the trans, or a speed sensor in the rear diff housing? If it is a sensor in the rear diff, this sends info directly to the ABS system. If the sensor is bad or not connected right, the ABS will not work, and the light will come on. On my truck, the speed sensor was destroyed by some metal floating around in the diff (tore the top right off the sensor!)
To tell whether you have the sensor, look under the truck from just in front of the rear wheels. There will be a pair of wires (in conduit) leading to a 'plug' in the top of the diff housing, towards the front. A 13mm bolt holds the sensor on, opposite the connector. This sensor can be easily removed for inspection, and it helps sometimes to clean off any particles that may be stuck on (the sensor is basically a big magnet).
I ran all over the dang planet looking for this sensor - finally found it at the biggest Ford dealer in the area. Apparently it's not a popular part.

Hey guys, haven't been on in awhile. Thanks for the responses Tom and Rocker. I'll take a look for speedo gear/speed sensor. Yesterday the ABS and BRAKE lights came on AGAIN and stay on AGAIN! This ABS valve (whatever the heck it is) mentioned in my last post was just replaced and it's already malfunctioning. There has to be something else wrong here. Am I correct?
