Post Slight Squeel ...........

I had to stop suddenly last week, because a young teenage punk pulled out in front of me. Ever since then I've notice a slight squeel; it appears to be coming from the front, under moderate brake pressure. Not light and not hard but in the middle and while the brakes are warm.

I was told to take off the pads and sand the reflectiveness off. I did, and it's still kinda of squeeking some what.

Should I take it back to the dealer and let them fix it?

Thanks In Advance ...

I've had to stomp on the breaks maybe twice,
due to some of our finer drivers here in NJ.
Was quick enough to have the ABS kick in.

Anyway, I used to notice a slight little
squeak too develop after a while. I took
my truck to a local Meineke that I've been
going to for a number of years. There
were a few things that needed replacing,
I believe it was the front cylinders, and
they resurfaced the drums/disks too.

I think Meineke has a lifetime warranty on
their breaks too, and they're much cheaper
than a dealer, I'd ask around and find a
good shop.

My 2 cents. It is under warranty, let the dealer fix it. Also it provides a record that you had a problem in case something more severe shows up in the future.

Nitrox:

Another possible solution to your problem may be to "seat" the brake pads.

I had a squealing brake problem which was only getting worse until I used this technique. Subsequently, the squealing went away and there was a noticeable increase in braking effectiveness. One down side, there was a lot more brake dust.

I have since traveled over 5000 miles with not a hint of the brake squeal.

If you wish, try a search under Seating Brake Pads. You'll find the details on this technique which, by the way, are quite simple.

Good Luck, Wilk.
