Angry "Parking Brake Light Out"

Troops,

My wife took the Steed for a spin last night and while on the road she calls me from her sell and tells me the Steed is running a little rough as though it were dragging. I then asked her to look on the dash to see if the Parking Brake Light was ON and she says NO. I then asked her to humor me a little and release the Parking Brake anyway and surely enough that solved the problem. I checked again this morning to make sure that was the case and surely enough the Parking Brake was ON but no light to let you know it was on. However the light comes on upon starup and goes out. I then consulted my Chiltons manual and no where in the book tells you how to fix.
How does one fix this problem?
Any input is always appreciated.

The light coming on at startup means the bulb is good, but it does not test the switch on the parking brake. It is this switch, like the old style dome light switches, that turns on the light when you apply the brake. You should be able to see the switch mounted on the brake pedal assembly, though you will probably need a flashlight.

Make sure the switch and the wire going to it are both secure. Push the pedal down and make sure the switch plunger is not binding. If it is maybe a little WD40 will loosen it up. If all looks OK mechanically, disconnect the wire from the switch and test the switch with an ohm meter. If the switch tests OK then the problem is in the wiring.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

Hawkeye,

Yes, as you advised "plunger switch".
Have since replaced it and everything works fine now. However the Steed is at the dealers now for paint chip repair. Sorry for not posting outcome much sooner.
Thanks for the help.
