Angry Brake pull-- HELP!!

I just changed the front pads in my buddy's 98 F150. We used Raybestos pads. The disks checked out ok for runout, so all we did was scuff up the disks with sandpaper.
I took the truck for a spin and there was a major pull to the left. It seemed to get worse after each stop. I removed the right wheel and checked the caliper to see if it was compressing when brake is applied. Everything was ok.

But I did notice the was severe dust buildup on the left brake assembly. I cleaned out the dust and checked everything. Took it for a spin and no problems occured for the time being. Then it started again after about 10 miles. There is no contamination on the pads or disks.

Could this be a stuck piston? I don't think there is air in the lines because we didn't break the lines open. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Question

Try looking at 2 things on the right brake. Is the caliper floating correctly when brakes are applied/not applied. Sometimes when you replace pads and push the piston back in, it allows dirt to be pushed into the piston bore, seal, etc. This is because that part of the piston was exposed before. This also backs dirt up into your brake fluid; that's why it's best to flush and bleed the brakes. Just a couple of places to begin; good luck.

MM,

First, we tried everything. Measured the rotors, rebuilt the calipers, flushed the brake fluid, installed and reinstalled and just about everything else.
Finally, as a last resort before taking it to Midas. I put back on the old pads, and the pull was GONE!! The Raybestos pads NEVER got contaminated when we installed them (we checked that several times). Maybe a bad pad from the manufacturer???

So I went out and bought some premium Napa pads and no problems (pull/ drag) yet!! Whew, what a pain. Now we just have to get my $$ back for the Raybestos pads at Schucks. If they refuse, the good thing is I paid on the credit card.

I'm glad you figured out your problem. There must have been "some" difference in pads. Good luck.

M.M.

The truck has been driven with over 200 miles now on the Napa pads. Everything is fine and dandy. Thanks for your help.
