Pullys? Do they free up 12HP?

Has anyone put their truck on a dynamometer before and after installing just the pullys? All these sellers are making wild claims about all the HP you can free up with different mods. I wonder how much they are exagerating? Does anyone know?

I'm getting ready to install my new Mark VIII fan and I want to install the pullys at the same time .... if they are worth it.

Where is the best pullys for the money? Anyone?

For me they worked big time !! i bought Steeda 3 piece pulleys ,i bought the mustang ones since they are the same just lower priced for some weird reason?!?! I had to change to a 6 rib belt since that's what the stangs run though...I changed to a flexalite fan a while ago and noticed an increase...Recently i installed the Steeda pulleys,Cobra R water pump ,and the Gator-back 6 rib belt..I noticed i definate increase with the seat of the pants feel..I wish i could have tested with the new G-TECH i just got,to see the difference..The pulleys were the last mods i have done so i think everything else i have done may have had an impact on the response from the engine?....If you don't have anything done to your engine and add pulleys you may not notice much but doing the fan and the pulleys i think you will be happy !! look into a COBRA R water pump too..like $75.......they are lighter and push more water so since you will be slowing down the pump the R will compensate for the less flow of coolant......

I have an ASP pulley kit on my truck, and in my opinion it was one the most noticeable mods I have done. Do the pulley swap and you'll wish you had done it sooner. No joke, it helps a lot.

The pullies are worth about 1 to 1.5 hp per 1000 RPM, so at low speeds there is little gain.

Not necessarily. I have seen 2 back to back dyno tests on 3.8 mustangs, 7rwhp and tq gain from idle to redline.

Bill

I installed the ASP pulleys and noticed increased throttle response as well as a small seat of pants increase. A month later I installed the electric fans. Once again I noticed increased throttle response and seat of pants increase. Additionally I have noticed increased fuel economy.

I did not do any dyno testing. Unless testing is done on the same day with the runs as close together as practical, the testing results really have no value. As I'm sure you know atmospheric changes: temp, pressure, and humidity affect the dyno results. IE dyno results showing +5 horse today might be +4 or + 7 tomorrow.

Bottom line for me: If you were told +12 horse for under drive pulleys, that was likely fairly accurate. The +12 being flywheel horses, of course. I am happy with my ASP pulleys and Derale electric fans, and would glady do the mods again. In point of fact I was happy enough with the results on the F-150, that I installed the fans on my wife's Explorer and would have also done the pulleys if I could locate a proper set.
