start up whine

lately since the cold weahter has come...
the f150 makes a whine from the engine area every time its started.
just briefly stops as soon as its started
could this be something serious?

I could be the starter motor making the whine. I had one do that - just a thought.

mine does the same thing! only in the cold. it's been going on 3 years now and no problems.

i think it is just the way the starter motor sounds when cold.

starter problems

just had the starter replaced under warranty. would not crank on cold mornings, just one click. service from dealer has been excellent. same thing happened once with the econoline.

My 97 4.6 whines when it's cold outside also and it sounds more like the fan or power steering. The reason I say this is because the first few turns I make, I hear the same sound. It seems to go away after it warms up, in a mile or two. Thanks all
