Lightbulb Recent experience with Coils and Plugs

Just thought I'd throw an FYI out for everyone regarding a recent experience I had with my engine.

Few weeks ago the engine started running rough when accelerating and had trouble at idle. Took it too the dealership (under warranty). Found 5 and 6 getting a bad spark and replaced the coils and plugs. Truck ran fine for about a week then started doing the same thing again. This time 7 and 8 had to be replaced. So basically all the plugs and coils were replaced on the drivers side.

They asked me if I had recently gotten the engine washed or was driving in adverse conditions. I told them I did neither and drove under normal conditions. They were concerned about some carbon between the coil and plug on 7 and 8. They informed me they would check the seals in the engine compartment to make sure there was nothing leaking onto the coils. I've read that there is the possibility of coolant leaking in that area so I'm keeping an eye on it.

In both instances the check engine light never came on. They informed me that this can happen, which I found odd if the engine was missing.

Engine is running fine now but it's only been a few days.

They same happened to me on my 2001 Supercrew. The coils were replaced and all well after that.

A relative of mine that is also a mechanic, mentioned that at one time there was a recall on a heater hose that would drip over one side of the coils.

Did anyone else here of that one?

I had the same problem on my 02 XTR with the 5.4 on # 6 cylinder. The truck was really bucking around and missing bad but no check engine light came on?Also my 2000 had the same problem and even the same cylinder #.I also own a 2001 Mustang Bullitt with the 4.6 and have had no problem but some of the guys/gals on the Bullitt web site have had problems with the coils.

Very very common on the passenger side all the way in the back is a rubber heater hose that attaches to a metal hose just above the back two coils which in some cases came from the factory with a pinch style clamp. change this to a screw type and the leak will go away.

also the ones that come from the factory with a screw clamp are sometimes loose. so just looking to see if you have a screw type clamp isn't good enough. make sure it is tight!
