Unhappy mpg help?

Can anyone give me suggestions on increasing my gas mileage. I moved to hilly northern VA from flat south Louisiana. I used to get about 300 miles per tank, now I'm down to barely 200 miles per tank (14-15 mpg to 10-9 mpg). Is this normal due to the hills or what. I'm still using the same gas EXXON, should I look at changing gas, plugs, or something else? Any suggestions.
BTW, it is a 5.4l SuperCrew 4x4. Thanks.

The only advise I can give is take it easy on those hills man! I don't really think that is your only problem unless you are kicking her down on every hill. How many miles you got on that beast?

I live in San Francisco, and I have to contend with hills and city driving. I have gotten as bad as 11 MPG, but on the other end of the spectrum, I have also gotten 18 MPG on the freeway. My truck runs great. I am just a little hard on the accelerator.
cajun, when in doubt check her out. How many miles? How have you been maintaining her? If you've been consciencious about maint. If you aren't noticing any real performance diff. then I'd wait to see.

welcome to NOVA!

we all have the same problem here. it is the gas! (And the stop and go traffic) because you are so close to DC they do all sorts of stuff to the gas to reduce polution, especially in the winter. and it really reduces your MPG.

on a nice weekend take a nice long drive into the country and buy yourself a full tank and you will notice a difference. you will also notice a difference in the summer time when they put less stuff in the gas.

have fun-

thanks

I figured it might be the gas. I'm down in the Quantico/Stafford area and since I've been here my gas mileage has been horrible. On the way here though I did hit 18 mpg! WooHoo! I'll only be here for 3 more months then its down to Pensacola FL for flight school! I can't wait to get back down south and out of all this darn snow. Oh thanks for all the feedback and I do keep very detailed maintenance records on my BEAST, and I only have 15,000 miles on her, so I know nothing is wrong with her, just thought someone might have some tips on getting better mpg. Oh well, I didn't buy her for the gas mileage. Thanks again.

Birmingham is hilly and we have the "reformulated" gas in the summer. On that stuff, my '01 Screw 4X4 5.4 only gets about 12 MPG. This time of year, it improves to around 15. I love her but she's mighty thirsty!

Only 15k, give it another 10k and you will probably see at least another mpg. This is what I have seen in 1st gen. 5.4 anyway. Good luck.
