Won't start in park

It is getting real cold here in NJ (about 20 right now) and when I go to start my truck in PARK it won't do anything as if the wire that goes on the seleniod for the ignition isn't on but it is. If I put the truck in NEUTRAL it will start right up? Anyone knows whats wrong?

is it possible that the transmission is hanging in reverse and not engaging in park?

I suspect that your neutral safety switch needs to be replaced or adjusted.

Try this, hold your foot on the brake, then move the shift lever back & forth while simultaneously holding the key down to the "start" position. You might find that it starts up just past the park position or possibly even in reverse! That's why it's important to first hold your foot on the brake!!.

I wish I could tell you where it's located on your truck but I really dont know. Most cars had them in the steering column and some on the transmission. Hopefully someone who's already done it will chime in.

Good luck.

Check the fuses, for you tail lights if you blow the fuse your truck won't start in park. Safety feature!
