Helix Power Tower...BAH
Helix Power Tower...BAH
I have been experimenting with the spacer over the last week and have concluded it does nothing but create the illusion you have a turbo whining under the hood with the right throttle position. I drove approx 200 miles today, and all the hills I ran with the cruise set at 68mph, same load, same temp, it would still downshift in the exact same spots it did without the spacer. Running around in the next town it also seemed that acceleration from a stand-still on even ground was a bit slower and more laboured.
This find is nothing new here in this forum but I thought I'd add my personal opinion to the pile of nays regarding the TB spacers.
SNAKE OIL!!!!
I will send back and wait for Banks to finish testing thier power packs for 2003 super duties.

(This reply also regards your fipk post)
Did ya happen to re-set your computer after each of these mods? If not, the computer is COMPENSATING for the mods instead of UTILIZING the mods. This might be why you have not noticed any power gains.
just a thought.

I did try resetting the computer after the mods.
I read an article in Sport Truck magaizine, they tested a series of mods on a 5.4 Excursion, including the FIPK. Strangerly enough, the dyno showed the FIPK in several spots produced less HP and Torque than the stock box down lower in the RPM's. Up above 3,500rpm, it consistantly pulled more HP/Torque.
I need more grunt in the lower rpm range, something the FIPK didn't give my truck.

After reading all of the negativity on these things on this message board, I almost decided not to get one. But with the 30 day money back guarantee, I figured I give it try anyway.
Here are my results so far after one week:
Before Helix Power Tower - 15MPG combined city/highway
After Helix installed - 18MPG combined city/highway
(Same driving pattern and destinations)
I don't notice any difference in power, less or more.
I don't know what all of the hubbub was about regarding the "annoying whistle", it is ever so slight, and only occurs for a second or two when you stomp on it . Normal acceleration produces not even the slightest sound. I did hear, though, if you install it upside down, it will make a nasty whistle.
So, if I drive 15,000 miles this year, and I gain 3 mpg, I will save
$276.00 at current gas prices of $1.65/g.
Bottom line for me, unit pays for itself in less than a year.
2002 F150 shortbed, 4.6L
K&N drop-in air filter
Gibson cat-back split dual exhaust

I have the Motorvator by Motorvision. My dad's shop installs them and they've installed them into a 5.4 SuperCrew, V10 SD, my 4.6, a 302, and a 80's Suburban and all have seen increases in both power and gas mileage.
