Question going from dyno to synthetic????????

I have heard that switching from Dyno oil in a veichle that has been running it for about 60 or 70K miles, it will cause leaks???!! Now If you use Amsoil's Engine Flush, then make the switch it will be fine and will not cause any leaks?? IS this true???? I would like to switch to Amsoil in my ranger.

Switching from dino to synthetic does not always create leaks. It depends on the engine wear and tear and the seals. Generally though, you will be doing the engine a huge favor by switching. Just use a Gunk brand flush and flush the engine and switch to synth. Replace the synth within the first 2k miles just so you get all deposits that might have been loosened by the flush out of the engine. From then on, depending on what synth you go with, you should replace the oil. For example, I go 3k with Mobil1 whereas others with Amsoil go 5k.

Synthetic oils don't cause leaks, they clean the engine and loosen all the deposits that have been "patching together" the old and worn out seals and gaskets. I've switched over about 15 engines to synthetics and all of them had over 50,000 miles and have'nt had a leak on any of them.

Good luck with the switch, you'll love it.

AMSOIL's Engine Flush is a wise move before switching. It will not harm the seals or gaskets and will remove deposits and other gunk left behind by dino oil. This will prevent the oil filter from being clogged due to the cleaning action of the synthetic. I have used it on many vehicles with nothing but good results.

I agree with TakimanPGT and mville656 and their assessments of synthetics not causing leaks. I have used AMSOIL for 5 years and have yet to see any leaks or drips.

Exactly and Gunk will do the same thing. Cleans out the leaks so they flow better. Go for the synthetic.

Synthetic oil change interval

IMO, Mobil 1 would be good for more than a 3K change interval, unless your mileage is all extreme, short trip, city driving. M1 should pretty easily go 5K, but the only way to know for sure is to have the oil analyzed. Everyone's engine/driving habits are different.

Mobil 1 at least 7500 miles or 6 months is my recommendation. (heck you can go 5,000 with dino)

(Though if it were mine, i would go 5,000 change the filter and then change the oil at 10,000)

New synthetics like Mobile 1 are compatible with all seals, (old one too).

If you've done regular maint. you shouldn't have to do an engine flush. Just make sure you get out all the old Rhinocerous oil, then refill w/ synthetic (new oil filter of course). There are some rumors about how synthetics and reg. oil are not compatible, this, however is not the case anymore. My father switched from Reg. oil to Mobile 1 synthetic at 70,000 mi. with no adverse reaction. I switched from Reg. motorcraft oil to Redline Synthetic with no prob. either. Just all depends on how your seals are...chances are they are fine. My father has 180,000 mi. on his 97 and the truck doesn't leak a drop.

Good luck, and stay away from an engine flush especially if you don't have to.

I've never heard of anyone having to clean the oil screen.

You should not have to clean the oil sump screen if you flush the engine as recomended.

When I change to synthetics I first remove the oil filter and install a new cheap one. Then add the engine flush to the engine. Then run engine at 20 mins. at 2000 rpm. Drain engine oil from motor. Remove filter and install new high quality filter(I use Amsoil) and refill with new oil. After that just keep an eye on the oil level for a while and enjoy the benifits.

If you do not flush your engine on higher mile engines, the oil will do the same thing the flush will do but it will take alot longer to clean and will fill up your new filter faster.

Do not be afraid of this, some people see the extended intervals and shun it right of the bat. But I have proof that it works and will keep using it for as long as I am driving.
