K&N Intake

For you guys with K&N Gen 2 kits and live in snowy weather, do you have any problems with snow being sucked into the filter?

Goat,

Now we get nowhere near the snow you do, but some winters we get a fair amount. I've had mine for 3 yaears with no problems. I'm not sure how it would get into the engine compartment? Do you mean from underneath? I really don't think it'll be an issue.

Just got through a major rain storm here in California and no problem what so ever. I've had mine for over a year.

Hi Goat

There is a "pre filter" that is made for K&N and probably others. It may help out on what your asking about?

Maybe those that use them will let you know.

Its probably not a big issue or problem...but.. IMHO.. under "certain weather conditions" including off roading/stream crossings etc i think its very possible that the exposed filter could get saturated with water. What effect that would have on the filter...maybe another reply here. Dont know for sure.

Even the stock OEM filter/air intake...could suck in water/snow. The possibility is there...but again...dont think its a big issue.

That is a good question. Maybe pro/cons on this?

Good luck...OT

Thanks for the responses fellas. Just wondering because I am debating on getting one. My dad and I both thought that it might suck in some snow. I don't do much off-roading; maybe will rip up some mud this spring. Do ya think $120 is a good deal for a barely used K&N gen 2 kit? Friend of mine has it and is going to sell it to me because he's getting a supercharger that has it's own intake kit and filter.

Hi Goat

Yeah, thats a good price if you know for sure its OK. Compared to cost of a new one. The mfg. gains i think are over rated...but you will notice a difference. JMO!

Lots posted here on air intakes.

Good luck...OT

That's a good price on it... make sure he gives you the filtercare kit that comes with it. I've had mine for nearly a year, and no problems with snow/rain/mud yet.

I noticed a definite throttle responce difference with my generation II. the engine's power seems a little more noticable.
I'm happy with mind.

Good luck.

I just did the po boy's intake by cutting the filter housing itself and haven't had any problems with snow or rain. To give ya an idea of our snow I have a few pics in my gallery. We have already had about 9" so far. The pics are from a previous winter.
