How hard to change plugs in 1999 5.4 expedition?

i just bought this expedition it is a 1999 with a 5.4 and 69,000 miles, i think i should do a tune up on it since i dont know when it was last done. How hard is it to change the plugs and stuff on this motor? What about the fuel filter? any tips would be great thanks

Dunno to tell you the truth 99.The dealerships in my area charge $250 to do it though.I've got a 99 F150 and I'm gonna have them go ahead and do it cause it's going back to the shop tommorow for ANOTHER head gasket leak anyway.

Good Luck..............FRF

im not sure if it needs it or not im comming from a 351 powered mustang that got the plugs changed every 1,000 miles so if there 100,000 mile plugs i should just leave them alone? hmmm ok then!

Just leave them. Man i hope u got one of the good 99 5.4 motors. Iwouldnt even try and change the plugs my self. Let the dealer do it and then when one of them blows out u can blame the dealer . check out this threadhttps://www.f150online.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88853

It's not necessarily hard, more a matter of how long it will take you. Probably between 1 1/2 - 3 hours depending upon your assortment of tools.

100k plugs does not mean the plugs will perform optimally for 100k miles. It depends on how you drive (obviously unknown with a used vehicle) it. My last Ford car with 100k mile plugs looked aweful at 30k miles. I changed my 5.4L plugs at 60k and they looed okay.

I agree with GearHead_1. It isn't that difficult, just takes some time and the right tools. The 5.4L in the Expedition is the same as the F-150. There are a lot of tips for changing them if you look around.
