The stumbling/surge problem at 30-40 I have had too (mine was like 25-45). Mine would happen when crusing along and going up a slight incline or accelerating lightly. That can be caused by several things. To make a long story short, it was my plugs and they never even set a misfire code at all. I thought it was my tranny going shot for a long time. I even had it flushed and shudder fix added to no avail ( at that point I was afraid it required major repair). Other things that could cause a surge type symptom would be a fuel filter, or a fualty fuel pump, partially clogged injector.
That's about all I can think of. Please feel free to correct me where wrong.

I love this place!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, then you can probably teach me how to use the thing exactly right then... I'm more than happy to share my knowledge on your truck, now if you just know how to mend a broken heart. I just had to dump my girlfriend of 4 1/2 years.
Sorry to hear that KY. I can't give advice..goin through a divorce myself, so I obvioulsy don't have a clue about women either. Of course, I really don't think anyone does..
At least I still have my dog and my truck... sounds like a country song!

Guys... sorry to hear about your lady troubles. My only advice, pay them some attention more often. Don't make your job priority #1. I'm lucky, coming up on 10th anniversary next year.
I've got a slight ping too now and looking for a solution. No cel codes though.
KY: thanks for the egr info. Going to check that out. Those pics of the egr ports... is that in the front of the throttle body or does more have to be disassembled to get at them? Guess I should have looked at my manual first... going to do that now.

KYFordFreak,
I feel your pain but it was a few years ago...My only advise to you is to "'keep on keepin on" you will find the one for you. I finally did and it took me 10yrs and a whole lot of child support! thats military life though.

I don't think I've experienced the pinging, just powerloss, and lower gas milage.
What should I look/listen for to tell if I'm pingin or not?
TIA!
Pinging is a rattling noise that happens usually under some load up hills or accelerating. Sounds really odd so you should know when you hear it. It doesn't sound normal. Not loud though.
I think pinging sounds like a marble in an empty tin can. If I get a chance I will write up my thoughts on a step-by-step on this. I just followed the Haynes and Chiltons to do it. Very nerve racking the first time but it's nothing major, just seems like a lot of wires, hoses and cables.

Not paying enough attention was not our problem I gurantee you that. In fact what she wanted was freedom and time to explore new things and people. We started too young, I guess. It's wierd since I didn't commit to marring her when she thought I should have, she decided it was time to cahnge and leave. It's all messed up right now. I hope you have a great 10th anniversary and wish you at least 40 more.

KY: if you PM me the step-by-step instruction I'll work over my truck and take the pics so we can co-author a how-to article.
So you have to remove the intake assembly off the throttle body, then remove the elbow from the throttle body. Those clogged ports are in a vertical section of the intake manifold then? How do you clean them without crap falling into the intake tract?
Sometimes when you start out too young one or both partners later thinks they missed something in their youth and want to experience other people, not that those other people will be any better! Sh*t happens eh. Sucks.

Hey not a problem. I would love to co-arthur a how-to with you. I know you have did several good ones. Right now I got to much going on in my personal life, to do it right away. I will try to get it done ASAP. The two ports are on the very lower backside on the TB. The TB is of course just that 90* elbow on the very top that the air intake tube connects to. The two ports open up into a seperate chamber where the EGR valve dumps the emissions in. This the smallest and maybe the coolest spot so maybe that's why deposit form there. Baicially all you need to follow is in the Haynes manual but still feel we could add more than they tell you.
You are exactly right about what you are saying. I know we were too young but I could have lived with it. Now I'm not sure. Yeah, it sucks big time. I feel bad for anyone this happerns too and all males in general. Right now I see women as more painfull than war or worse.... owning a Chevy, LOL JK.

Hey, no rush, whenever you're ready. I've got too many home improvements going right now and work is busy too. Seems weekends I'm putting down finishing trim on the new hardwood floor and/or tiling other parts of the house. This coming weekend is nothing but applying grout to the new tile.
Somewhere there's a woman made for you out there. Lots of fish in the sea. Stay away from any that say they are "bi-polar", just found out the other day that it's the new catch phrase for manic-depressive. A friend of mine's GF is bi-polar. Says he has to get out of the house when she goes "off". Feel sorry for him.
