need fuel filter help
I have just spent 1 hour trying to get the fuel filter off my 1998 F159 4X4 5.4 L. and it's still not off. I have the filter hanging down off the fuel filter bracket. I think that the holding springs in the connector are damaged and won't let the fuel filter go. I would never again like to try this, does anyone know what kind of pressure there is in this line? Can I run fuel line with hose clamps so I can place the fuel filter in another location PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Hang in there and keep on trying it took me a long time to get mine off as well. One side took about 30 minutes to get off the other came off quickly and effortless. I ended up with a massive blister on my thumb from the pressure of using the little plastic tool to release the clip.
Hi
Are you using the fuel disconnect line tool?
I know...same thing happened to me. Inserting that tool...its like push in tool to release spring inside line fitting...pull with other hand...working both together. Kinda like push/pull.
It should come off...unless like you said for some reason? you screwed up the spring inside the snap-on line fitting? Hopefully you didnt do that?
You did remove the safety clips? Yes, remove line pressure first. What happens if you dont...i dont know?
Good luck...OT
btw...you probably already figured out...if ff bracket taken off...alot easier to install new ff. Sure is on my 99. Installing FF in another location? maybe someone here knows. Ive never done it.

TIP!
Pull really hard on the filter, you probably have the spring released all you have to do is pull HARD.
By the way has anyone else had problems finding the correct fuel filter? I cannot find one like OEM but I have not tried ford yet. THe original was about 2 inches in diameter and all the other I have found are about 4 inches in diameter, they will hook up to the lines but will in no way fit in the bracket. I now have a filter just kinda dangling there next to the frame.

I got a plastic fuel line tool from PEP BOYS and it took me about 10 minutes to do the first line and two for the other. It is a pain to get the lines off and the filter out of the bracket. You do need a fuel line tool to get the lines off. I also had to do the push/pull thing to get the lines off. The lines go on much easier. Good luck.
If the spring clips are bent, the release tool will not work.
I would cut the fuel filter off where the filter tube goes into the fuel line.
Then get a small pick (like a dental pick) and pick the spring clip out. Or physically bend the clips back and pull the remaining filter pipe out.
Once you have the spring clip out, try to rebend them back to the original position and reinsert it back into the fuel line.
Good luck.

Hi SS...see what happens.
Hey Silver Blue...know what you mean. Funny how some parts are at store. Changed mine about a yr. ago.. Ended up going to Ford...$19.00...2 parts stores didnt have filter.
Since then found place that has them...looks just like OEM? for about $8.00. less. (Car Quest)
You might want to make a new bracket to hold the bigger FF.
Oh, my $7.00 fuel line tool from Pep Boys works just fine, after i learned how to DIY.
Good luck...OT
