Strokers for Towing

Who has a done a stroker based 302 and used it for towing. Need to know if its worth it for my setup. I know an overhaul for my truck is coming up with a 116k miles on the original motor. Right now I am looking at Central Coast mustangs 327 shortblock to go along with some GT40 heads, E cam, plus my other current mods Post up your engine combinations if you would
Thanks
Joe

The main thing to look at is where the power band is. You want to keep the power band in the typical towing rpm, which is lower than a race type engine. You want to maximixe the torque at lower rpms. A high revving engine will produce a lot of horsepower and be great on top speed, but you will be very dissapointed with the towing capabilities. Your engine builder should be discussing this with you as to what you want your engine to do. Good luck with your project.

Sounds like you have a darn hot setup right now! Tell us about that supercharger you have.......

As for the cam:
Im not so sure you want to use the E cam if your intentions are towing. That is a high winding cam around 6k which not to many tow rigs venture. Also, converter lock up may become a concern. If you do want towing power, I really wouldn't go with that little car engine. If you can get away with it and still use most of your mods consider a 351. This engine produces much more torque and feels more at home in a heavy truck.

That engine from central coast mustang is just that, for a mustang. You will be hard pressed getting that truck moving from a stand still especially with your stang behind. If it wasn't for the towing, this engine would be great with even a little less milder cam.

do NOT go with an E cam if youre gonna tow, a couple of people have tried it in their trucks and it shifts the powerband up wayyy to high to be useful in a truck.

I have thought about a 351. In fact the 351 in my mustang came from a 95 F150. I still have all the intake stuff also. My only concern is brackets for it. The blower is for both a 5.0 and 351 so I am good there. Only thihng is that I probably won't get lucky with a roller block again??
